Manufacturing: Product is manufactured with a significantly smaller total environmental impact than typical of the fiber manufacturing industry.
Antron® Answers
Change your philosophy and priorities, and the results are inevitable. The last ten years have seen significant changes and our future targets look to
continue this trend.
Recent milestones:
- The need for fiber finishes reduced by nearly 50%
- Climate change emissions reduced by 40%
- All nylon manufacturing waste recycled (0% sent to landfill), significantly reducing overall land emissions
What’s the engine driving these successes?
We define the Total Environmental Impact of our operations much more broadly than
the industry has traditionally measured it. We assess our depletion of natural resources as well as emissions to the air, land and water. And,
all our initiatives have paid off: Currently, the total environmental impact of Antron® nylon is 30% less than typical of the fiber manufacturing industry average.
That’s a win-win for everyone.
Alternative Energy: Use of significantly more “alternative energy” in the manufacture of a product than typical of the fiber manufacturing industry.
Antron® Answers
“Alternative energy” is earth-friendly energy – derived from sources such as the sun in the form of solar energy. Today, over 38% of the combined energy use of the six plants that produce our fibers and intermediates comes from “Alternative Energy”. These include efforts such as co-generation (i.e., using heat generated in the manufacturing process to heat a facility) and waste-to-energy (using wastes to power a plant).
Health, Safety & Environment: Documentation of a significant effort towards protecting health, safety and the environment in the manufacture
of a product.

We’re proud of our “green” side: 60,000 acres of land worldwide has been donated or placed into “permanently protected”
status by INVISTA and its subsidiaries. Not to mention the wildlife habitat programs we’ve established on many thousands of acres at nylon plant sites
around the world.
End-of-Life Responsibility: Significantly greater end–of–life responsibility for a product than is typical of the fiber manufacturing industry.

Through the INVISTA™ Carpet Reclamation Program, started in 1991, we were the first company to reclaim and recycle used commercial carpet. Through this program, which recycles all types of used commercial carpet back to its highest effective value, we’ve reclaimed over 57 million pounds of carpet to date. And that’s saved over 106,000 cubic yards of landfill space.
As the only third party certified, nationwide reclamation program with sites in major U.S. and Canadian cities, we’ve taken post–consumer responsibility for ~6%
of the materials that we contribute to the commercial carpet industry. That’s well over the stated industry goal of 3.8% for 2002. (Reference CARE MOU).
We’re happy to do our part… and then some.
Product Performance: Product performance tests better than typical of the fiber manufacturing industry.
Antron® Answers
Antron® nylon tops two categories: it’s the most specified brand of commercial carpet fiber AND the performance leader. The key to that performance? It starts with our superior type 6,6 nylon polymer along with our unique fiber engineering technology and our patented soil resistant treatment. Because Antron® in engineered to stay on the floor longer, less waste is generated, fewer raw materials are consumed and less energy is used.
